| i am saddened because a very good friend of mine leaves early early tomorrow morning for The Airforce Acadamy and i am not going to see him untill christmas maybe.. he is a really good friend and i am really really going to miss him.

| OK... before you start freaking out on me... read... cuz i hate it more then anything else when people judge based on the title or the first few lines of a post... also... i want feedback.. i like it.. whether its opposing or agreeing. If i upset you, good, cuz if what i say upsets you.. then you will think about it.
and now for the post....
Christianity, despite the most popular of belief, is not really a religion. Yes it has religious aspects too it, which are good and bad, in my opinion more bad then good but thats me. And yes it is considered one of the main religions of the world. But at its very heart and soul it is not a religion at all. Religion by definition is a man-made attempt to reach toward God, understand his nature, and learn to make him happy; it has a system like a ladder where through good works, spiritual discipline, etc man can climb to were God or the Diety is. Man is seen as weak but still able through persistant religeous walk to reach God, God's favor, or a knowledge that allows him to be united with whatever god might be. The many religions of the world may have different ways, views, teachings, etc but mainly they fall under this definition. Yes, christianity may fall in line with some of this, but what it defines as the problem and solution really go at odds with religion itself. One good example of this is the saying "The Lord helps those who help themselves.", you may say that is from the bible right, wrong.. that is actually a quote from Benjamin Franklin... the Bible actually says "the Lord helps the helpless.". What does that say? that says that Our faith Christianity isnt about us, man, reaching up to God and working our way up to God, its really about God reaching down to us and offering his Grace, Love, and Salvation as a free gift, we dont deserve it but he gives it to us. We as humans are sinful creatures, born into sin, everything we do, say, touch is rank with our sinful nature. And God is offering to destroy it for us since he cannot have sin in his presence through Jesus' sacrifice of taking the punishment for us... He died for us, His blood is a gift that wipes away the sin. We cant become holy or clean through our own works.. it is done freely. But we should do good deeds and show love and be a light to the world not because it will grant us salvation.. cuz no matter what good deeds you do on this earth it wont win you salvation.. we should rather do them as a way of thanking Jesus for our gift.
Religion is mans way, his own creation that boosts up the ego and makes us think we are closer to God by what we do. Grace is given to us Freely by the sacrifice of God's Son, and that is God's way. Many people dont accept Christ because they really dont think they need a savior, they think that by going to Church and doing the right thing, etc will buy their ticket to heaven. Sorry folks... no matter how many services you attend, no matter how many times you take the Lords supper or Eucurist, no matter when or if you were baptized, no matter how much money you give to Charity or to the church... you will never be saved until you accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior and take the free gift he has for you, dont get me wrong those things are good, but sometimes whats really important is overlooked
The ideas i have expressed today i have always thought and wondered and have accumulated through years of questioning and studying and just trying to learn as much as i can about my faith and what i believe, i still have a lot to learn. A lot of things i think or opinions i have i have seen expressed by others as well which really helps me cuz i know im not the only one who thinks this, one man i like is Professor Markos from a University in Houston, he is a very intelligent and interesting man and a lot of what he says is very uplifting.
I am sad when i look at what our faith has become and what it is becoming, we need to wake up.. since the beginning of the church our faith has been altered and changed and is becoming and has already become just another religion...
